There is so much to think about behind the simple act of brushing your teeth. We’re dedicated to making this process as fun and easy as possible. In this blog post we will explain why brushing is important and how to get the best results, how to make brushing fun, and what the best brushing tools for you are. We love getting to talk about our favorite subject, your teeth! And we love getting to share our knowledge even more.

How to get the best results

Did you know that brushing is actually more about your gums and gum line? Eating allows plaque to build up in all the small crevices of your mouth, mainly around your gums and in between your teeth. These are the areas that tend to need the most attention at a dental appointment. The best way to remove build up from these areas is to brush in a circular motion with special attention to your gum line. This motion will help dislodge large debris and get all the hard to reach places.

If food particles are left to build up in your mouth, they will turn into plaque and cause cavities or much more serious dental issues. This is why brushing is so important, it prevents issues before they start. Brushing regularly is an easy way to prevent pain for your future self!

Make brushing fun!

Most people wouldnt necessarily consider brushing to be exciting, but there are tons of ways to make bruising your favorite part of the day! Here is our list of ways to make brushing fun.

  • Listen to your favrotie song
  • Have a dance party
  • Admire your pearly white teeth
  • Read an article
  • Watch a video

Try out some of these tricks and find what works best for you to make brushing fun (we like to have dance parties)! Once you start getting excited about brushing you’ll begin to look forward to it each day!

Use the right tools

When it comes to brushing, some tools work better then others! The best toothbrushes are electric, but even when picking an electric brush there is a lot to think about. Most people assume hard bristles are better, but this is actually not true! Hard bristles can scrape your gums creating microcuts and they can wear down your enamel (which never grows back). The best brush to use is a medium to soft one that contains multiple layers of bristles. The softness will protect your mouth and all the layers will work together to get rid of food.

Flossing is an equally important part of brushing, but it often get overlooked because people don’t know where to start. For flossing we recommend you try multiple methods and use what works best for you! Popular options are

  • Water picks
  • Air flossers
  • Floss picks

These 3 methods are all great flossing options. If you’d like to know more about what would work best for you, ask us at your next appointment! We’re always excited to discuss ways to improve your oral hygeine.

Brushing regularly is THE best thing you can do for your mouth. If you’re intentional, brushing can be fun and exciting. It doesn’t have to be a chore! Making sure to use the right tools and create healthy habits can save your teeth later in life.
